What will happen in speech therapy sessions
Speech Therapy |
Speech therapy sessions:
The speech therapist
that works with your child will use equipment and activities designed to
address your child’s particular needs. Each child has a behavior plan that
lists the long term goal(s) of therapy and the short-term objectives.
These
goals and objectives will be addressed in every therapy meeting. The speech therapist
will use developmentally-appropriate toys, games, and activities because we consider
that children learn best when they are dynamically involved and enjoying
themselves.
Our Speech therapy equipment is colorful and attractive to children. Some
children are not happy with the parent out of view, while others perform and do
best when the parent is not present.
In any case, parents are always welcome to
watch their child’s therapy sessions. At the end of the session, the therapist
will generally spend 3 to 5 minutes sharing information with the parent about
which objectives were addressed and what development was made.
Occasionally
homework is provided. Often, the speech therapist makes suggestions for how the
parent can help out the child at home.
